"Mercury in Pisces"
by Cynthia Appel

This placement may be a blessing and a curse. I know every planet in each sign has that potential. That is what puts the spice in life. It’s just that the up-side and down-side of this one has been so obvious in my life. After all, this is the way I think. This is the filter through which I process what comes into my consciousness and, in reverse, sort through everything I give back to the world. As a double whammy, my Mercury is in the twelfth house.

My whole life I have been chided or congratulated for having an outlook on life that seemed to be a few degrees away from norm. Comments I would make that I thought were harmless either irritated others or amused them. I was totally confused and could see no reason for these reactions. Even after I began studying astrology I never fully realized I had a perfect explanation for my odd duck behavior.

Last year I found a real kindred spirit in a new addition to our group - Jan. She also has Mercury in Pisces, but hers is in the eleventh house. Lucky for me, Jan had identified the Mercury culprit in her chart. We were able to compare experiences and found that even though we came from totally different backgrounds we had many common denominators.
For instance, in groups we tend to say the wrong things, or the right things but at the wrong time. Comments that sounded perfectly fine in our heads are not received in the spirit we meant them. It is that "bubble off center" thing.

Or making a point and being totally ignored, save for the looks that say "She’s weird.", only to have someone else make the same, exact point later to universal praise. We can only sit and ask ourselves, "Didn’t I just say that same thing?"

Both of us are often accused of being hard to follow during normal conversation. It seems we insert parts of past conversations, or reference any obscure bit of information if we think it pertains to our current topic. We can usually follow each others rather wandering paths of reasoning, but if we can’t we know to wait and a statement will be made that will make everything clear. The clarifying statements are automatic. We are used to having to explain ourselves.

Being confusing is not something we do on purpose. It’s kind of a time-warp thing. We have trouble keeping our then-nows separated from our now-nows. Our Pisces thinking allows us to remove many of the artificial time borders humans impose on ourselves. Unfortunately, the baby often goes out with the bath water, and we lose
reference points that can create comfort. Oops.

I hope this helps somewhat if you ever have to deal with a Mercury/Pisces person. Maybe the word "spacey" is the best adjective for us. But we can be quite nice if you take the trouble to corral our attention. We do try.
