Mythic Tarot ~ Mystic Bali

Juliet Sharman-Burke
April 4th~ 13th, 2009
Mystic Bali offers a nine day residential Beginners Course in the Art of Tarot.
We will concentrate on the Mythic Tarot, a deck which Juliet
Sharman-Burke co-created with astrologer and Jungian analyst
Liz Greene, which uses Greek mythology to amplify and elucidate
the archetypal meanings of each of the 78 tarot cards. We will
also look at other traditional decks, and will examine the historical
background of the ancient cards.
Our approach to reading and interpreting the cards will be essentially
psychological, and we will explore ways to understand the divinatory
meanings in a healing and spiritual way, rather than with a view
to finding out which numbers will win the lottery!
We will learn how Jung’s four functions of consciousness,
Intuition, Feeling, Thinking and Sensation also correlate with
the four astrological elements of Fire, Water, Air and Earth,
and the four suits of the Minor Arcana, and how astrology and
tarot complement each other.
The tarot is a wonderful tool for self-awareness as well as for
divination and this workshop will offer an opportunity to explore
some of its many facets through guided imagery, myth, story, colour
and music. The first half of the course will focus on learning
about the cards and their meanings and the second half will be
experiential and practical.
While the course is for beginners but it will undoubtedly also
prove useful for those who have knowledge of the tarot but wish
to have an opportunity to develop a deeper and more profound understanding
of this fascinating and mysterious subject. What better place
to embark on a mythic journey than in the magical mystical land
of Bali?
Our study of the tarot will generally take up the mornings with
the afternoons being spent being exploring the joys and wonders
of Bali.
Included in the price of this package will be:
Four 1-hour massages
A half day bike ride from the volcano down to Ubud (nearly all
downhill!)
An Indonesian Cooking Class
Attendance at a Full Moon Ceremonial Ritual Bathing & Blessing
Kecak Trance Dance Performance (Fire Dance)
Village Walking Tour
Specialised Organised Shopping Tour
WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
Dates: April 4th through April 13th , 2009
Everyone is required to arrive on April 4th so there will be time
for acclimating and recovering from jet-lag, (that night's accommodation
being part of the Melati package).
Once everyone has arrived on the 4th we will have a welcoming
orientation meeting in the Meditation Hall, this will be held
early evening.
The workshop proper will officially begin on April 5th. At 8.30am
we will come together in the Main Meditation Hall, starting at
our official opening time of 9 am. We have chosen our starting
time astrologically, and you can view our "opening"
chart here.

On the day of the Full Moon (April 9th) at 6am in the morning
we will head for an ancient Balinese temple in a town called Tampak
Siring, where we will join the local people in a ritual bathing/purification
ceremony followed by a temple blessing. This is of course an optional
event, and women during their cycle do not participate. That evening
there will be another optional group trip to watch a Kecak(fire)
Trance dance. That day we will have a teaching session between
the time we return from the temple, around 10.30am, until 1pm.
There that evening we all go to the dance performance.

There will
be an optional 2-day tour of the Buddhist temples of Borobudur
on the island of Java, immediately following this workshop
April 14th~ 15th
Please go
to Borobudur Tour for more information.
THIS WORKSHOP IS ONLY OFFERED AS A RESIDENTIAL PACKAGE, ANYONE CHOOSING TO STAY OFF-SITE WILL PAY THE SHARED OCCUPANCY PRICE.
