Mythic Tarot ~ Mystic Bali

with
Juliet Sharman-Burke
April 4th~ 13th, 2009
Mystic Bali was a nine day residential Beginners Course in the Art of Tarot.
We concentrated on the Mythic Tarot, a deck which Juliet
Sharman-Burke co-created with astrologer and Jungian analyst
Liz Greene, which uses Greek mythology to amplify and elucidate
the archetypal meanings of each of the 78 tarot cards.
Our approach to reading and interpreting the cards was essentially
psychological, and we explored ways to understand the divinatory
meanings in a healing and spiritual way, rather than with a view
to finding out which numbers will win the lottery!
We learned how Jung’s four functions of consciousness,
Intuition, Feeling, Thinking and Sensation also correlate with
the four astrological elements of Fire, Water, Air and Earth,
and the four suits of the Minor Arcana, and how astrology and
tarot complement each other.
The tarot is a wonderful tool for self-awareness as well as for
divination and this workshop offered an opportunity to explore
some of its many facets through guided imagery, myth, story, colour
and music. The first half of the course focused on learning
about the cards and their meanings and the second half was
experiential and practical.
While the course was for beginners but it was also
useful for those who had knowledge of the tarot but wished
to have an opportunity to develop a deeper and more profound understanding
of this fascinating and mysterious subject.
Our study of the tarot generally took up the mornings with
the afternoons being spent exploring the joys and wonders
of Bali.
