The Colours of India



Dates: January 13- 27, 2018



Sunday, January 13th


Today we fly to Delhi! We will meet up with everyone and that very evening board a night sleeper train to Jaisalmer. For those new participants joining us for this leg of the trip we say welcome!


We are taking the train to the far west of Rajhastan and will slowly wend our way back to Delhi by road. After our initial train journey we will be travelling by private luxury vehicle for the rest of the time, allowing us the freedom to stop whenever we like for shooting, eating or whatever else we fancy.



Monday, January 14th

When we arrive in Jaisalmer we will be picked up at the railway station and taken to our lovely hotel, where we will spend 2 nights at The Rang Mahal . After check-in and a freshen-up, we will head out for a day of sightseeing and shooting in Jaisalmer. The tour begins from “The Jaisalmer Fort”, built in 1156 by Rawal Jaisal, the fort sits 80 meters high on the Trikuta hill. Still inhabited, there are palaces and bazaars with in the fort walls, which has 99 bastions around the circumference. Later in the afternoon, we will drive to Sam, 40 Kms. from Jaisalmer, then we will take a camel ride on the sand dunes (optional!) at sunset. Then back to the hotel and dinner.




Tuesday, January 15th

Relaxation day and an opportunity to see other sights in Jaisalmer. We will have a vehicle at our disposal.

For the really adventurous there is a local Bhang Shop!




Wednesday, January 16th

After breakfast, we check out from our hotel and drive to the beautiful blue city: Jodhpur (280 Kms / 4 Hrs). On arrival in Jodhpur , we will check into our next lovely hotel, The Ranbanka Palace , where we will spend two nights. 




Thursday, January 17th

Today we explore even more of Jodhpur. There will also be plenty of time for R & R, massages, wandering, or whatever else anyone wants to do.  An added excursion to the fascinating Bishnoi Village might interest some people.



Friday, January 18th

We will check out of our hotel then drive to Udaipur (250 kms / 5 hrs). On the way we'll stop to visit the magnificent Ranakpur carved marble Jain Temple. In Udaipur, we will check into our hotel The Mewargarh, where we will spend 3 nights. We will have the rest of the day and evening to explore this marvellous city. 



Saturday, January 19th

After a leisurely breakfast we will have a full day in Udaipur. The City Palace, the lovely Sahelion-ki-bari gardens, the Jagdish temple and a local Museum (all optional). This evening we will enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Pichola . From the boat, we will view the city of Udaipur as it rises majestically above the lake in the middle of the Rajasthan desert. Dinner and back to our hotel.




Sunday, January 20th

A completely free day in Udaipur, with the car and driver available for our use.



Monday, January 21st

After breakfast we'll drive to the Holy City of Pushkar (270 Kms / 4-5 HRS). We will check into the luxury heritage hotel Bhanwar Singh Palace for 1 night. We will visit the Brahma Temple, one of the only temples dedicated to Lord Brahma in the whole world. No pilgrimage to Hindu places is considered complete till the pilgrim has bathed in the sacred waters of Pushkar (not compulsory!). 



DAY 10

Tuesday, January 22nd

After breakfast, we will drive to the glorious capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur (140 km / 2.30 hrs). On arrival in Jaipur we'll check into Arya Niwas for 3 nights (Evelyn loves this hotel and has stayed here many times over the last 27 years!) A free afternoon and evening to relax or wander. 



DAY 11

Wednesday, January 23rd

This will be a busy day of exploring this magnificent colourful city. The Amber Fort, The Jal Mahal Palace in the middle of the lake, the City Palace, the Observatory, the Palace of Winds (built for the women to observe outside life while completely invisible themselves.) We will then have a walking tour through the old city and the local markets.


DAY 12

Thursday, January 24th

A whole day free for shopping in one of the most fantastic places in the world for gems , jewelry, and beautiful fabrics.



DAY 13

Friday, January 25th

Drive from Jaipur to Agra (250 Kms / 5 hrs). On the way, we will stop at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary , and at the Fatehpur Sikri. We will check into our hotel in Agra; Crystal Sarovar, and then have a free afternoon and early evening.


DAY 14

Saturday, January 26th

We will leave before sunrise to experience one of the 7 Wonders of the World, the glorious Taj Mahal. We will then return to our hotel, have breakfast, pack up and head towards Delhi (210 Kms / 3-4 Hrs). Our hotel, the Holiday Inn Aerocity, is conveniently located right next to the airport.



DAY 15

Sunday, January 27th

Some of us will have night flights home, others may be spending more time in Delhi or elsewhere in India. We will be happy to make recommendations to anyone wishing to spend more time in India.
